KANCÍCÀ : OR IMMERSION AS A TOOL FOR MEMORY AND COOPERATION, PRODUCING AND DEVELOPING AN INTERNATIONAL IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE

In Fongbe, “kancícà” means “link”. Produced by MansA – Maison des Mondes Africains and Dream Feel Factory, this immersive experience, developed between Benin, Brazil, and France, takes the form of a dome projection and an augmented exhibition.

Its artistic approach is both narrative and memorial, as “Kancícà” is a modern tale centered on the figure of Na Agontimé, Queen Mother of the Kingdom of Danxomè, who was enslaved and deported to Brazil. Through immersion, audiences are taken into a physical, cultural, and spiritual journey connecting Africa to the Americas, magnifying traditions and the intangible, and reactivating hidden memories in a new way.

But “Kancícà” must also be seen as a practical case study to talk about the challenges and issues of developing an innovative multicultural project: from artistic design to fundraising, from international coordination to itinerant exhibition.

Between opportunities and constraints, this conference offers a concrete perspective on how to make a multicultural immersive project and focuses on how “Kancícà” — between Benin, Brazil and France — can be considered as an emblematic project highlighting the challenges of immersive production, international cooperation and heritage transmission.
